Michael Orton – Operations and Labor Manager

Michael Orton’s interest in machinery began in middle school when he frequently dismantled electronics as a means of learning how things worked. His father worked in the construction industry and his cousin was an electrician. These two men inspired Michael to attend Anoka Technical College. Upon graduation he was offered his apprenticeship with City View Electric in 1992. Michael was organized into the union by Local 292, joining Medina Electric as a service electrician in 1995. After several years of problem solving as an on-call electrician, he moved up to foreman for Iris Park Senior Living project in 2001. He served as a foreman, and ultimately general foreman. One of his greatest accomplishments was renovating the Historic Schmidt Brewery into artist lofts.

Michael was brought into the office January 2017 as operations and labor manager, training, and mentoring electricians. Michael participates with NECA and the selection of future apprentices for Local 292. He analyzes project progress and reviews monthly projections while focusing on job efficiencies company wide. Michael enjoys a challenge—problem solving daily with vigor and a smile. He is passionate about safety, communities, working with leaders by building relations with general contractors, developers, and employees.
